Transformation of Wood

Group exhibition Transformation of Wood that was initially showcased at National Museum of Modern Art (NMMU) in Zagreb, Croatia presents works of some of the most prominent visual artists from Croatia in the 20th and 21st century who used wood as the material of their art works. The exhibition at Galerija Božidar Jakac (GBJ) is adapted and extended as the works of Croatian artists from the NMMU collection are put in dialogue with selected works from the GBJ collection.


The exhibition highlights the importance of wood, trees and forests for the survival of human kind as well as its relationship towards nature. The exhibition at GBJ in Kostanjevica na Krki showcases 50 works of Croatian artists from the collection of NMMU and 18 works of artists from the collection of GBJ. Selected works reveal astonishing forms of wood as a primordial natural material in myriad of its transformations shaped over the past hundred years.

The curator of the exhibition is Tatijana Gareljić (NMMU), in collaboration with Miha Colner (GBJ).
