Born in 1923 in Ashikaga, Japan. In 1949 graduated at Keio University (aesthetic and art history), in 1952 graduated at the Tokyo University of Art. In 1956-66 studied in Rome and Vienna.  Had a number of exhibitions worldwide (London, Berlin, Kyoto), received a number of awards. His work is described in many monographs. Died in 2006.
