Tomaž Furlan was born in 1978. He comes from an artisan family, where he gained experience and knowledge of stone working and other sculptural skills from childhood. After graduating from a Secondary School of Construction (profession: stonemason), he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he graduated in 2005 under the mentorship of Prof. Jože Barši. He is employed as an assistant professor and lecturer at the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana.
