Shigehito Matsuda was born in 1959 in Yamagata, Japan. He graduated from sculpture at Tama Art University in Tokyo, and specialised in wood sculpture in the period 1978-1982. He held number of solo exhibitions. In his late career he engaged in smaller, environmentally engaged sculpture. He worked as an associate professor at Tama Art University and he is a member of NIKA KAI Artist Association.
