Mirko Bratuša (1963) is a visual artist who mainly works with sculpture. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1989, and then specialised at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1990–1992) and the Düsseldorf Academy of Art (1993). Since 1997 he has been teaching at the Department of Art Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana. In his practice, he uses a wide variety of materials, techniques and concepts in the spirit of postmodernism. He lives and works in Ljubljana.
Sculptor Mirko Bratuša has placed two sculptures on the Baroque façade of the former monastery church, which refer to the legend of the founding of the Kostanjevica monastery. The figures of the two key monastery founders, Duke Bernard Spanheim and the Wild Man, are created in a grotesque manner typical of the artist. With their humorous appearance, the statues allude to the fine line between mythology and history and highlight the popular need to create stories.
