Bogdan Borčić: 6th Exhibition in the Graphic Cabinet
03. 10. 2008 – 27. 11. 2011
6th Exhibition in the Graphic Cabinet of Bogdan Borčić
The selection of prints for this installation, the sixth in a row, was made by the artist himself. It follows a chronological overview of the outstanding graphic oeuvre that Prof. Bogdan Borčić bequeathed to Galerija Božidar Jakac in its entirety. The works on display date back to the first half of the 1990s, and the installation sensibly continues the story of the prints that were on display over the summer, which included a few sheets of dense square grids where the trace of a shell could still be discerned, but were dominated by works from the Incision series.
In the sixth installation, we remain in the manner of minimalist art, where Borčić, experimenting with techniques and graphic plates, with changes in rhythm, black and white contrast, with turns around the axis or mirroring the rotation of the plates, builds up the picture field through the process of so-called framing. These compositions, as Barbara Borčić writes, are almost a “photographic or filmic framing of cut-outs, the play of light and dark, as well as the geometry of the relational elements. They are characterised by a conception of the pictorial field which, as a whole, corresponds to a conception of space taken from a larger whole”.
