Trajectories: Works from the Gorjup Gallery Collection
12. 09. 2025 – 15. 02. 2026
The exhibition Trajectories: Works from the Gorjup Gallery Collection will mark the 50th anniversary of the Galerija Božidar Jakac – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and present the rich Gorjup Gallery Collection, the oldest collection of the museum. Today, it comprises of more than 2,100 works, and the exhibition includes more than 110 artists from the collection. Due to the absence of a permanent public display, which is otherwise set up in a small version at the elementary school in Kostanjevica na Krki, many of the works will be on display for the first time.
The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections, each based on a pair of concepts – two points in the direction of development, two points on a line that stretches back through the beginnings in elementary school and beyond, further than this year’s anniversary. These concepts: intuition – strategy, formation – reinterpretation, stability – dynamics, collective – individual, serve as conceptual frameworks and starting points for reading the historical development of gallery activities and open up various levels of interpretation. The thematic pairs enable a multi-layered reading of the collection: as an archive of institutional decisions, as a field of artistic experimentation, and as a space where different currents of thought and creation meet. Each room functions as an independent reflection on one of the directions of development — both of the Galerija Božidar Jakac and of art in general — while at the same time inviting transition, connection, and reinterpretation.
