Božidar Zrinski: “Bogdan Borčić and Slovenian Printmaking in the Second Half of the 20th Century”

Saturday, 10 October 2026, at 5pm

The talk will focus on the status of printmaking in Ljubljana and Slovenia during the second half of the 20th century, when printmaking was one of the most popular and widespread forms of visual art, partly due to the establishment of the Department of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts (ALU) in 1945 and the launch of the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in 1955, as well as general cultural policy. Zrinski will also touch upon Borčić’s role within the vibrant community of printmakers in Slovenia, his relationship with the Ljubljana School of Graphic Arts, the Biennale of Graphic Arts, artistic tendencies of the time and other related phenomena.

Božidar Zrinski is curator at the International Centre of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana.

*To mark the 100th anniversary of Bogdan Borčić’s birth, GalerijaBožidar Jakac is organizing a series of three lectures dedicated to the development of printmaking in Slovenia. The lectures will be accompanied by art workshops.

The workshop will draw inspiration from the artistic universe of Bogdan Borčić. Through an exploration of form, symbol, texture and material, we will explore the possibilities of the graphic medium using various materials, layering and printing techniques.
