Bogdan Borčić and Printmaking: Lectures Marking the 100th Anniversary of His Birth
Saturday, October 3, at 5:00 p.m.
To mark the 100th anniversary of Bogdan Borčić’s birth, GalerijaBožidar Jakac is organizing a series of three lectures dedicated to the development of printmaking in Slovenia. The lectures will be accompanied by art workshops.
Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. / Intergenerational Workshop: Gold in Calligraphy
In this calligraphy workshop, we will explore Proto-Gothic script, medieval handwriting and the world of richly illuminated manuscripts. We will also look a little further ahead – to the Baroque period, a time when the colour gold became an important part of artistic expression. Each participant will write their initial in proto-Gothic script and then decorate it with gold, drawing inspiration from medieval manuscripts and Baroque splendour.
We invite everyone (aged 10 and over) who enjoys writing, socialising whilst writing, and learning something new to join the workshop.
The workshop will be led by Dijana Costa (Museum of Christianity in Slovenia) as part of the activities marking the award of the European Heritage Label and the European Heritage Days campaign.
The workshop is free of charge. Please register at dejavnosti@galerija.bj.si.
Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. / Blaženka Firšt, National Museum
From the First Prints to Modernity: The Development of Printmaking in Slovenia
The lecture will offer a historical overview of the development of printmaking as an artistic medium in Slovenia—from its early beginnings in the 16th and 17th centuries to the 20th century, when printmaking flourished and established itself as an independent art form. We will explore its various forms and roles: from the first attempts at book illustration during the Protestant Reformation, through Baroque and Classicist printmaking and the diverse movements of the 19th century, all the way to the modern era.
