He studied at the Royal College of Art and Sunderland College of Art. He was exhibited in many significant art institutions (Art Council, Victoria and Albert Museum) and he had number of solo exhibitions and a retrospective exhibition at Tate Britain, London. In recent decades he was dedicated to promotion of West African art, mostly Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast. He was Professor at Bath Spa University College for nearly 50 years. He died in 2019.
