Karel Plemenitaš: Captured Spaces. A retrospective exhibition on the occasion of the artist’s 70th anniversary
02. 08. 2024 – 09. 02. 2025
The artist Karel Plemenitaš will turn 70 in 2024. He first presented himself to the Kostanjevica na Krki public with his graphic works in 1982 at the Lamut Art Salon, and in 2008 with an installation of works based on prints at the Lapidarium of the Božidar Jakac Art Museum. This year’s exhibition, with which the artist is returning to the exhibition spaces of the Lapidarium once again, will present a survey of the major cycles in the artist’s creative period of more than 40 years. At the same time, the exhibition is a tribute to the artist who, through his pedagogical work at the Kostanjevica na Krki primary school, contributed to the multifaceted development of the importance of visual arts in the town.
Karel Plemenitáš is known to the Slovenian public mainly for his ceramic and graphic works. In 1978 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts – Department of Painting under Professor Andrej Jemec, where he also completed a specialisation in graphic arts under Professors Bogdan Borčić and Marijan Pogačnik in 1981. In 1988 he studied at the ceramics department under Professor Arne Åse and mentor Ole Lislerud, and at the graphic arts department under Dag Hofseth at Statens Handverks – kunstindustriskole in Oslo, Norway. He lives and works in Ljubljana as a graphic designer and ceramist, and for many years was a teacher of drawing and ceramics at the Secondary School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana.
