ZORAN DIDEK (Podbočje, 1910 – Ljubljana, 1975). Studied painting at the academy in Zagreb. Was an important art theorist, designer and teacher at secondary schools and the Ljubljana academy of art. Along with self-portraits, portraits and still lifes, the landscape is a common theme of his works. In the pre-war period his landscapes are realistic, typically ‘Dolenjskan’ and green, while later, in his analytical explorations, a move towards abstraction prevails. His drawings are also important, particularly his caricatured self-portraits. The permanent collection has been on view since 1995 and was redesigned in 2000 and 2012.
