The beginnings of gallery activity in Kostanjevica reach back to 1956 when the Gorjup Gallery was founded in the primary school at the initiative of the then headmaster Lado Smrekar. Since 1974 the Gorjup Gallery has formed part of the Božidar Jakac Gallery. The permanent exhibition presents a selection of sculptures, paintings, drawings and graphics from an extensive international collection of twentieth-century art. Its location in the premises of a school is an extraordinary feature of the permanent exhibition that offers the unusual possibility of a direct interweaving of gallery activities and educational work. The present exhibition has been on view since 2015.
