JANEZ BOLJKA (Subotica, 1931- 2013, Ljubljana). Studied sculpture at the academy in Ljubljana. He was living in Ljubljana. Is an important representative of Slovene surrealist sculpture. His early works were done in iron while the later ones are cast in bronze. The assemblage technique gives his creations a special picturesqueness and vivacity. Thus we can observe the subjects of his depictions – be they animals, the wandering Ribničan, or Ivan Cankar – on two levels: as a whole or as a set of individual components which are often already used objects. It is however the sculptor’s creative activity that provides the homogeneous message of all the elements. The exhibition of 92 sculptures, paintings and graphics has been on view since 1994.
