Helena Tahir: V vrtincu / In the Whirl

Lamut’s Art Salon, Kostanjevica na Krki

Exhibition opening:
Friday 6th of April 2018 at 6 p.m.

Exhibition will be open until 10th of June 2018.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The artist Helena Tahir positioned in the center of attention of current exhibition the figures of children in various compositions involving flying objects that either spin around the children or pull them into the spiral of life. Their gazes are searching for us and sometimes they stare at us with surprise, sometimes they show fear or melancholy, and sometimes they reflect the determination of a young person seeking for his or her space in this crazy world. The motifs of children (in colour drawings and graphic print techniques) are backed by black and white abstract drawings, which strive to create the effect of spatial illusion and interweaving multi-layered structures. She additionally merged her graphic prints and drawings into a spatial installation with a 3D fabric object in the frottage technique. With its movement and sound the installation spreads into space. The images enter our horizon of perception and stimulate our imagination so that her art is perceived through an intentional act. Her images simply surpass reality. (Vesna Teržan)

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
The Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana gave Helena Tahir (1992) enough knowledge to successfully deal with the “angels and demons” of the creative process, and help her to look further to find herself on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the Portuguese city Porto, where she studied the secrets of graphic art at the Academy of Fine Arts, as part of the Erasmus exchange programme. Currently, she continues her master’s studies at ALUO, and at the same time she is studying painting and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. An in depth meeting with the Portuguese art scene on the one hand and German on the other, has strengthened her decision to build her own world of visual arts, regardless of global or local trends. She studied graphic art and devoted a lot of time to this genre, so she understands, what the qualities of a graphic print are. She is a painter and has also tried herself in sculpture. She particularly engages in drawing (color and black and white) and in addition to traditional graphic techniques, she also works digitally. As a well educated artist in the theory of visual arts and technical knowledge she explores deeper meanings of art, with which she enriches her works. Lately her focus is also on searching for answers in the vast knowledge of great philosophers of past periods.
