FORMA VIVA 2000

The international sculpture symposium Forma Viva began in 1961 due to the initiation of Jakob Savinsek and Janez Lenassi. It ran in four locations. Typical sculpting material in Kostanjevica Forma Viva is oak, in Seca near Portoroz stone, in Ravne iron and concrete in Maribor. In its early years, the exhibition ran every year, and then tapered off. At the end of the 1980's Forma Viva had ended everywhere, except in Seca. Artists from throughout the world participate. About 100 scupltures are exhibited in natural surroundings, in the gardens of a former monastery, and in the very city and nearby areas.

There were no exhibitions of Forma viva for a decade. In 1998 Forma Viva was renewed. The year's exhibiting artists were: Alfonso Berridi (Spain), Petar Barisic (Croatia) and Roman Makse (Slovenia). Plans for the future include making Forma Viva a biennial event.
