The Permanent Collection of
Janez Boljka
Ivan Cankar with a Muse - detail Janez Boljka was born in 1931 in Subotica and after the war moved to Ljubljana with his parents, where today he lives and works as an artist. He has donated 250 pieces of art to the Bozidar Jakac Gallery among which are exhibited 92 plastic art, pictures and graphic art. Boljka can be counted as the beginner of Slovene surrealistic sculpture. His early works were made from iron and later of bronze cast. The assembly of technology gives his creations a distinct picturesqueness and vitality. We can observe the motifs of his creations either animals or Ribnican- eternal traveller or Ivan Cankar, on two levels: like an entirety or like a mixture of individual ingredients that are usually previously used subjects. Sculptor's creations are those which give a homogenic message in all elements. The exhibition has been on view since 1994.
